Social and emotional skills form the basis for wellness in all areas of a person’s life. The process through which children and adults acquire the ability to recognize and use emotions to guide behaviors, social interactions, and decision-making is referred to as social-emotional learning (SEL). In this workshop, participants will review the concepts and competencies of SEL with an emphasis on adult SEL. By focusing on building self-awareness and personal practices of SEL competencies, participants will be able to foster SEL in their school environment – whether they are school administrators, teachers, or support staff.  Participants will learn and apply practical, powerful strategies to enhance social and emotional competence within themselves and their students. This workshop illustrates a whole-school approach to SEL, and teaches simple, foundational elements that support SEL implementation.
